Self Portraits – 2
Description
The outward gaze of the Ochre self-portrait is firm and direct. I think it reveals both the anger and the new solidity and purpose that motherhood had given me.
Whereas the second, pale portrait betrays the other extreme. I seem as if I am disappearing, that I have withdrawn from my flesh and bones.
I look at the sketch now and it reminds me of how overwhelmed I sometimes felt, and how much I yearned to be rescued. I am quite sure that during this period I dreamed less of a hero on his white steed than a heroine in starched white apron.
