Gabs Mia 1
Description
This is a painting I did of myself pressing my cheek against the delicate skin of Maia as a newborn baby.
My own daughter was the first baby I had ever held, and I once she was in my arms, I almost never put her down. I was amazed by the delight the smell and touch of her gave me.
I had a very strong desire to paint this feeling, about 3 years later, having never painted her up until this point. I delved among our photographs until I found one my mother had taken during the first couple of weeks.
I painted it in a morning. By the end of the week, I discovered that I was pregnant with our second child.
